Tamsulosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate and reducing the "urgency" or frequent need to go.
Dutasteride works by lowering levels of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the hormone responsible for prostate growth. Over time, this can actually shrink the prostate gland.
Long-term use can decrease the likelihood of acute urinary retention (sudden inability to urinate) and reduce the need for prostate-related surgery.
